Aromatherapy (Burning Resin)

Purify your space and uplift your environment using these three traditional and modern methods. Each method offers a different intensity of aroma and smoke.

1. Traditional Charcoal Burning
The most powerful method, ideal for large spaces, deep purification, or ceremonial use. This creates the most smoke and the strongest scent.
What You’ll Need:
  • Self-igniting charcoal pucks
  • Heat-resistant burner (brass, ceramic, or stone)
  • Sand or small rocks (to line the burner and insulate heat)
  • Tongs
Instructions:
  1. Prepare the Burner: Fill your burner with a layer of sand or small rocks to protect the vessel from high heat.
  2. Light the Charcoal: Hold a charcoal puck with tongs and light the edge with a lighter. You will see it spark and crawl across the surface.
  3. The Ash Layer: Place the charcoal on the sand. Wait 2–3 minutes until the charcoal is covered in a thin layer of white ash. Placing resin on "raw" red coal will burn it too fast and cause a scorched smell.
  4. Add Resin: Place a pea-sized piece of Frankincense or Myrrh on the center of the charcoal.
  5. Replace: Once the smoke stops or smells slightly "burnt," scrape off the spent resin and add a fresh piece.

2. Electric Incense Warmer
The modern, "clean" method. Ideal for daily use, apartments, or sensitive environments as it produces minimal smoke and a pure aroma.
What You’ll Need:
  • Electric resin burner (with adjustable temperature)
  • Small piece of aluminum foil (optional, for easy cleanup)
Instructions:
  1. Prep the Plate: Place a small square of foil on the heating plate to prevent the resin from sticking directly to the metal.
  2. Add Resin: Place 1–2 small tears of resin on the foil.
  3. Set Temperature:
    • Frankincense: Set to approx. 180°C - 220°C (350°F - 425°F).
    • Myrrh: Set slightly higher, as it is a denser resin.
  4. Enjoy: The resin will slowly "sweat" out its essential oils without burning the wood/gum base, giving you a very clean, long-lasting scent.

3. Tealight (Candle) Burner
The gentle, atmospheric method. Perfect for meditation or a light, lingering scent in a single room.
What You’ll Need:
  • A "double-decker" tea light burner with a metal or stone mesh/plate.
  • Standard unscented tea light candle.
Instructions:
  1. Light the Candle: Place a lit tea light in the bottom of the burner.
  2. Add Resin: Put a small amount of resin (crushed pieces often work best for this lower-heat method) into the top dish.
  3. Distance Matters: If your burner has an adjustable height, start with the resin further away from the flame. If it gets too hot, the resin will bubble and smoke; if it’s too far, you won’t smell anything.
  4. Cleanup: Once the candle goes out and the burner cools, the resin will harden. You can usually "pop" the hardened resin off the plate with a dull knife.

Pro Tips for All Methods
  • Ventilation: Always burn resin in a well-ventilated room. A little smoke goes a long way.
  • Crush the Resin: Using a mortar and pestle to break large "tears" into smaller granules helps the fragrance release more evenly.
  • The "Spent" Resin: Unlike incense sticks, resin doesn't turn into ash. It turns into a dark, brittle "cinder." Once it turns dark brown/black and smells like toasted wood, it is finished.
  • Mixing: Try burning Frankincense and Myrrh together. The bright, citrus notes of Frankincense perfectly balance the deep, earthy musk of Myrrh.

Storage & Safety
  • Safety First: Never leave burning charcoal or candles unattended. Keep away from flammable materials, pets, and children.
  • Surface Protection: Always place your burner on a heat-resistant surface (like a coaster or tile), as the base of the burner can become extremely hot.
