Mouthwashes & Gargles
Natural Mouthwash & Gargle
A potent, chemical-free rinse for oral hygiene and fresh breath.
The Standard Ratios
-
For a Single Use:
- 1 small resin tear (approx. 1 gram) of Frankincense
- 1 small resin tear (approx. 1 gram) of Myrrh (optional but recommended)
- 4 oz (1/2 cup) of warm purified water
- 1/4 tsp Sea salt or Himalayan salt
-
For a Weekly Batch:
- 5–7 resin tears (approx. 10 grams)
- 2 cups of purified water
- 1 tsp Sea salt or Himalayan salt
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Crush the Resin: For a faster infusion, lightly crush the resin tears using a mortar and pestle or the back of a spoon.
- Dissolve Salt: Stir the salt into warm (not boiling) purified water until fully dissolved.
- Combine & Steep: Add the crushed resin to the saltwater in a glass jar. Let it steep for at least 6 to 12 hours.
- Strain (Optional): You may strain the liquid through a fine mesh or coffee filter into a clean glass bottle, or leave the resin at the bottom to continue infusing.
- Use: Take a small sip and swish vigorously for 30–60 seconds, ensuring it reaches all areas of the mouth and throat. Spit out; do not swallow.
Pro Tips
- The Power of Myrrh: While Frankincense is excellent for oral health, adding Myrrh resin creates a synergistic effect that is traditionally used for more intensive gum support and mouth sores.
- Sticky Note: Because resin is not water-soluble, it will leave a sticky residue on your container. Use a dedicated glass jar for your mouthwash to avoid cleaning hassles with your regular glassware.
- Temperature: Always use lukewarm water when gargling for a sore throat, as it is more soothing to inflamed tissues.
Storage & Safety
- Shelf Life: A fresh batch is best used within 2–3 days if kept at room temperature.
- Refrigeration: For a weekly batch, store the mouthwash in the refrigerator to maintain freshness for up to 7 days.
- Container: Use an amber glass bottle if possible to protect the light-sensitive volatile oils in the resin.
- Warning: Do not swallow. This preparation is intended as a topical oral rinse only.
